Challenging the preconceptions... Unlocking the mini monitor enigma and allowing it to convey the depth and breath of a live event has been the quintessential goal for many a speaker builder. As the penultimate device in a long chain of compromises, the mini monitor is commonly relegated to playing less-challenging recordings. At Nate's Audio, we believe that a concession due to space should not necessitate a compromise in truth. The Model T5, aka "True Five", was built to unlock this paradox. Justified... Sensible application of the craft... The Model T5's x-over may not be unique in absolute terms, however, the attention to "on and off axis", along with power responses, have created a speaker that can carry the performance well beyond typical mini-monitors. Baffle damping is via a unique silica-mica & ceramics based compound that remains pliable as it transforms resonance energy into low level heat. The increase in mass and energy dissipation from the front radiating surface allows the T5's to disappear behind a single harmonious image and take center stage. HF/LF drivers use copper cups on the poles, thereby controlling variance in voice-coil inductance. This lowers modulation distortion while increasing transient response, allowing very natural sound. Permite core inductors on the LF drivers offer significantly lower hysteresis before saturation while featuring an extremely low DC resistance with a very high power handling capability allowing the performance transients to shine through. True... Proven in the court of public opinion... Building on the success of winning the Audio Society of Minnesota Loudspeaker Design Challenge in 2008, we feel confident that we have recreated a mini-monitor that tackles the paradox of the small box sounding small. Some comments: "nice mids", "involving", "open", "neutral", "clean", "precise", "tight", "good tonality", "well balanced overall"... We scored more points overall than any other entrant including the unlimited class! Not resting on our successes, we determined to build a successor not limited by driver selection and again returned late in November 08' to more acclaim...no, the sub's were not in the System, and yes, those are truly five inch drivers... Belief... |
